This school year, the counseling departments at Dogwood Elementary, Keefer Crossing Middle School, Pine Valley Middle School, Woodridge Forest Middle School, Porter High School, and West Fork High School earned the Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas (CREST) Award.  The CREST Award is sponsored by the Texas School Counselor Association and honors school counseling programs for their dedication to continuous improvement and student support.

The CREST Award empowers counselors to showcase their programs and highlight the successes for students, staff, and parents. To earn the CREST Award, counselors are required to submit an application outlining their program plan, objectives, curriculum, and examples of student outcomes resulting from the implementation of their program. The CREST Award celebrates the counselors’ dedication to the academic and personal growth of their students.

“Receiving the CREST Award is a testament to the counselors' implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program that plays a vital role in student success,” said Counseling Director Janet Graczyk. “This recognition acknowledges their commitment to obtaining results and working in the best interest of students and all stakeholders.”

On a daily basis, our counselors play a critical role in helping students navigate the challenges of adolescence by providing guidance both emotionally and academically.  They provide personalized support, help students develop resilience, and teach valuable life skills in a safe and welcoming environment. Through one-on-one counseling, group sessions, and collaboration with families and staff, our counselors create lasting impacts, helping students prepare for the future.

According to PVMS Principal, Kesha Cauley, the counselors are CREST winners because of their ability to make students feel safe with their patience and empathy.

“They communicate well, helping students express their emotions and work through challenges with confidence,” Ms. Cauley said. “With strong problem-solving skills and a positive attitude, they guide students through academic struggles, social conflicts, and personal growth. Not only are they trustworthy and adaptable, but they also respect students' privacy while working closely with teachers and parents to create a supportive environment.”

WFHS Principal Bridgett Heine echoes this sentiment, stating “their unwavering commitment to the academic, emotional, and future success of every student is what truly sets them apart as CREST-worthy counselors.”

With less than 100 districts in Texas receiving this distinction, earning the CREST Award is an honor to not only the campuses, but to the district as a whole.

“It is truly rewarding to know that New Caney ISD is supported by a remarkable group of counselors who exemplify compassion and dedication to both students and the profession,” said Janet Graczyk. “It is fulfilling to see counselors being recognized for their commitment to the success of their students, campuses, parents, and the community.”
