National Junior Honor Society
National Junior Honor Society
National Junior Honor Society is an organization which recognizes outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. Members have a responsibility to continue demonstrating these qualities and may do so through a variety of projects, fundraisers, and school/community service.
Membership
Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is considered an honor. Eligibility in the National Junior Honor Society is based on academic criteria recommended by the National Council of the National Junior Honor Society. To be eligible for membership, the candidate must be enrolled as a member of the 7th grade or 8th grade class at Keefer Crossing Middle School. Candidates shall then be evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, character and citizenship by completing an application shortly after the first nine weeks. Eligibility does not guarantee selection as a member.
7th grade candidates must have a cumulative scholastic average of at least a 90 at the end of the last semester of 6th grade and also by the end of the first 9 weeks, and have outstanding teacher recommendations.
8th grade candidates must have a cumulative average of at least a 90 at the end of the last semester of 7th grade, also by the end of the first 9 weeks, and have outstanding teacher recommendations.
Meetings will occur on Friday mornings.
Orchestra
Orchestra
We offer beginning orchestra, symphonic orchestra, and concert orchestra. Beginning students will test into their instrument in the spring for the following year. The orchestra teacher will place the symphonic and concert students based on ability.
Sign up for orchestra on the student course request to join!
Student Council
Student Council
Student Council is a group of elected and volunteer students dedicated to providing service to our school and community. Student Council members work on such events as school dances, Red Ribbon week and spreading positive morale throughout the school. To join, all you have to do is fill out a packet and come to the meetings. All are accepted as long as you have a good positive attitude and want to help make the school a better place by providing a positive atmosphere and school spirit along with appreciation to the staff.
UIL Academics
UIL Academics
The University Interscholastic League offers the most comprehensive program of academic competitions in the nation. UIL Academics offers more activities than any other UIL division, with 29 contests at the high school level and 20 A+ Academic contests for grades 2-8. More than half a million students participate in UIL academic contests each year.
Students will sign up for UIL events during the fall semester and will compete in March. They will compete against students from both New Caney ISD and surrounding districts.

Yearbook
Yearbook
This course teaches students yearbook design and composition. Direct application is achieved by creating the school yearbook. Students are instructed in basic photography skills, and student photography is featured in the yearbook. If your student is interested in a future in journalism, advertising, or photography, then Yearbook class is a great place to start!
